Black Walnut Beauty
The visual aspect of black walnut is delightful !

It is almost a chocolate color, with red and black stripes sometimes running thru it.It is very nice to just clear coat this wood, and let it be enjoyed  the way The Good Lord intended to be.It is a finish that will get better with age, although you will not want to set  it into direct sunlight.*I have had a walnut bedroom set for several years and it has only lighten slightly in color.

Sapwood is white, the heartwood is the rich chocolate with  purplish brown in colour, with a dull sheen. Black walnut is  straight grained ,but the burls are very fine.Workabilty.Is good, but produces a fine black dust when milled.

According to U Forestry folk, black walnut has dropped to the 5th most valuable wood now.

Quality logs are sliced into  veneer. Slices of black walnut wood, small as  1/28th of an inch thick are glued to sub woods to make it possible for all of us to buy walnut furniture and paneling. The demand for this beautful wood  far exceeds the supply.
